Geranium Essential Oil
Botanical Name: Pelargonium graveolens
Steam distilled leaves & flowers
Citronellol: 40% ; Geraniol 6–19 % ; Linalool 3–10 %
Scent:flora, similar to rose
Blends well with: basil, bergaptene-free bergamot, citronella, clary sage, fennel, jasmine, juniper, lavender, lemongrass, neroli and nutmeg.
Properties: astringent, diuretic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, tonic, antibiotic, anti-spasmodic,anti-infectious agent.
Use: Geranium, being a premium priced essential oil, is usually added in small amounts to add a sweet, floral note to more medicinal scented terp essential oils. Essential oils are added to henna paste to break down the henna plant cellulose, which gives you a better lawsone dye release. Please don't add more than 15ml essential oil per 100g of henna powder. Without a proper carrier oil, essential oils should be limited.
Can also be used for aromatherapy.
Do *NOT* diffuse essential oils if you own a bird! The molecules are too small & can coat the alveoli of the lungs, causing pneumonia.
