Companion parrots often die from heavy metal toxicity due to playing with their owner's jewelry.  It's known that costume jewelry can be high enough in lead & cadmium to be toxic to children, but in my research I discovered that even high quality jewelry components contain zinc, copper, lead & tin - all of which are toxic to parrots. Most jewelry components are brought in from China with no information sheets to check what is in the material. Even with 304 and 316 stainless steel parts!
I spent an entire year sourcing out 304 stainless steel and food grade aluminum made in north america with component breakdowns to confirm they are free from dangerous heavy metals to protect our flocks :)
