Helm Weave Earrings

These chainmaille earrings, in a Helm Weave, is made from brilliant, food grade 18 gauge stainless steel & parrot safe 20 gauge titanium wire. Pure titanium is coloured a by anodization (funky electrical current things that does not affect the purity or safety of titanium). Each titanium ring has all the colours of the rainbow. Chainmaille is an ancient process, build each piece by hand, one link at a time with just a pair of pliers, a ton of patience & time.  Ear wires are also hand made from food grade stainless steel.

* Parrot safe does not mean parrot-proof: strong beaks can still damage FeatherWhipped handmade jewelry - They just won't get heavy metal toxicity while doing it. The same potential injury & choking hazard applies as it would with any jewelry. This is not a parrot toy :)

Companion parrots often die from heavy metal toxicity due to playing with their owner's jewelry.  It's known that costume jewelry can be high enough in lead & cadmium to be toxic to children, but in my research I discovered that even high quality jewelry components contain zinc, copper, lead & tin - all of which are toxic to parrots. Most jewelry components are brought in from China with no information sheets to check what is in the material. Even with 304 and 316 stainless steel parts!
I spent an entire year sourcing out 304 stainless steel and food grade aluminum made in north america with component breakdowns to confirm they are free from dangerous heavy metals to protect our flocks :)
